About the DSO...
The purpose of the DuPage Symphony Orchestra is to maintain a symphony Orchestra in DuPage County, Illinois; to foster and encourage the production of music; to give musical performances; to foster and develop musical talent in the county; to educate the public in symphonic literature, and to encourage attendance at symphonic concerts.
That is the foundation of the DuPage Symphony as set out in its original Constitution that was adopted in January, 1956, when the ensemble was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. The DSO had been established and performed for the first time in December of 1954, as an all-volunteer organization, but it was not until a year later that the organization's reason for being was given this specific expression.
Now, in its fifty-seventh season of service to DuPage County, it remains true to its original purpose.
Founder Russell Harvey, starting with less than 50 musicians and without a permanent home, performed in various school auditoriums, country clubs, civic centers, and other venues around the county. While the original orchestra focused mainly on shorter works and early classical composers, today’s symphony offers its audience full symphonic performances and more diversity of composition for a broader listening experience and education for our every-growing audience
